  • Bill O’Shea

Bill O'Shea graduated from our Celestial Navigation Class and our Bahamas to Norfolk  Training Cruise in April 1997 aboard Dream Catcher, an Island Packet 40. He later joined Captain David Appleton as Mate on three yacht deliveries to St Thomas, USVI.  The First, Hawke Spirit, an Island Packet 350, was commissioned in Oxford, MD. Bill and David sailed her to Norfolk then, in July 1997, they completed a 1500 mile offshore delivery to St Thomas. In December 1997, they again teamed up on Emelia, an Island Packet 350, in Panama City, Florida. From there, they sailed to Marathon, Florida, passed through the Keys, crossed the Gulf Stream, threaded the Bahamas and sailed East into the Atlantic. At 25N/65W they turned South and headed to St Thomas. This was an 1800 mile passage completed in about 16 days. Bill again teamed with Captain David Appleton in November 1998 for delivery of  another Island Packet 350 from Norfolk to Saint Thomas. Bill has certainly had an outstanding opportunity to build his ocean sailing experience after graduating from our ocean training program.
