THE MARYLAND SCHOOL OF SAILING
& SEAMANSHIP is dedicated to bringing high quality educational
and training programs to the boating public and marine professionals. Our
programs are targeted to those individuals who want to make significant
progress along a path of continued development and to eventually become
highly trained and skilled in their chosen areas. This level of achievement
can only be brought about through dedicated and serious effort in a comprehensive
and continuing program taught by skilled professionals.
An example of this curriculum is our Sailing Certification Program which is based on the very thorough performance standards, text books and training support material developed by the American Sailing Association. It includes a series of seven consecutive courses and takes a beginner from basic boat handling and sailing on through increasing levels of complexity to Offshore Passagemaking. It combines classroom and home study and a substantial amount of sailing experience on well found sailing yachts. The student who successfully completes this curriculum has entered a group of elite who have the ability, experience and confidence to operate sophisticated yachts in remote areas away from the immediate support and distractions of modern society. Those who choose may temporarily or permanently stop their training at some intermediate level, such as Bareboat Chartering or Coastal Navigation. As there are no time limits for successful completion of this curriculum, an individual may resume training at any convenient time. |
