Sue Montana and Bob Bennett graduated of our Coastal Navigation class and our DELMARVA Training Cruise in 1998 to help achieve their sailing/cruising plans aboard their own boat. Sue sent the following letter to Captain David Appleton, their DELMARVA instructor:

    29 Jun 1998

    Hi, Admiral,

Just wanted to let you know that the confidence we gained on the DELMARVA is helping us both tremendously.  We are one week into our big circumnavigation of Long Island and haven't hit anything or engaged in a homicide or suicide yet.

We started out going from Fire Island Inlet to the Statue of Liberty for a weekend Sabre Regatta and came up the East River into the Long Island Sound on Sunday.  We're currently in Norwalk CT and trying to figure out what the weather is going to do tomorrow as the barometer is dropping pretty fast, and the forecast isn't good for tomorrow - so Port Bob would just as soon sleep in tomorrow.

Anyway, just wanted to drop you a note to let you know that even though I may not talk so good nautical jargon, you really made a difference in our lives, and I thank you.  Although I'm still overly cautious and a little neurotic, the practical skills we learned with you have really turned this vacation from a terror train ride to a great adventure.

    Sincerely,
    Sue Montana
