07/16/16
Winds SW 5-10 knots;  clear. Motored out of Corsica River and down Chester River, then set sail down Chesapeake Bay to West River. Discussed cruise planning and navigation; made two-LOP fixes and DR plots as we proceeded. Tacked several times across the bay and back. Practiced efficient sailing to windward. Docked at Pirates Cove shortly before rain arrived.

Winds S 5 knots; clear. Motor-sailed out of West River. Set full sail at mid-bay on out way to Eastern Bay. Slow sailing and heat caused a decision to motorsail up the Miles River to St. Michaels.

07/18/16
Winds SW 8-10; Gusts to 15 knots; clear. Glorious day for sailing. Discussed various emergencies including grounding, collision, fire, storm preparation, engine failure and objects fouling propeller. Conducted Crew overboard drills and more practice on navigation and DR plots, and Estimated Time of Arrival. Approaching storms as we neared Annapolis. Radar showed a gap between storms that presented an opportunity to head into harbor and pick up a mooring. Completed ASA exams before heading out to dinner.

07/19/16
Winds N 5-10 knots; clear. Reviewed exams. Sailed then motorsailed. Good wind until we reached Bay Bridge; then light and variable. Pumped out holding tank. Could not refuel due to very low tide at fuel dock.
