My overall impression and experience of my ASA101 course is positive. I felt the course to be a comprehensive 101 lesson that was both humbling and exhilarating. Our class experienced a variety of weather conditions and Captain Ren was an excellent Instructor. I'm left with a desire to learn and know more. In addition, I appreciated Captain Ren's anecdotes surrounding local Chesapeake history in regards to its people and wildlife.

I'm thankful that Rita directed me to repeat the ASA101 class. This was a class on seamanship as well; previously, for me, the term held only vague meaning.

In my personal research I came across Nigel Calder's Cruising handbook. I even performed some of the calculations about boat design specific to the Island Packet 32. I'm a novice, so I write this with admitted ignorance, but I don't feel as if I entirely understand the rationale for modern boat designs beyond market pressures and cost. Ultimately, I feel like this school has a different attitude and a realism that isn't portrayed in the glossy magazines, and this was a comfort to me. Thank you all at the Maryland School of Sailing for an unforgettable experience. I feel truly fortunate.
