  • Eric Petterson

Eric has been sailing for over 25 years, beginning his time on the water on a lake outside of Austin, Texas. Since that time he has logged over 42,000 miles with over 30,000 of these being offshore. He is an alumnus of the Maryland School, obtaining his Offshore Passage Making certification from Captain David Appleton. After retiring from IBM after 31 years, he and his wife spent over 5 years living on their Island Packet 35. Together they sailed the U.S. east coast from Maine to Florida, the Bahamas, Bermuda, the eastern Caribbean venturing as far south as Trinidad, and then sailed trans-Atlantic visiting the European islands of the Azores, Madeira, and the Canaries. After returning from their cruising, he and his wife moved ashore in Annapolis and currently enjoy cruising the Chesapeake. Eric holds a 50-ton USCG Masters Near-Coastal license and is certified to teach ASA courses up through Advanced Coastal Cruising. Eric has been teaching at the Maryland School since 2000 and enjoys sharing his experiences and knowledge with prospective cruisers.
