Building teams and developing
leaders is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, challenge facing even
the most successful organizations. The Maryland School of Sailing
& Seamanship is pleased to present a unique
and dynamic workshop in conjunction with the St Andrew Institute using sailing as a segue to team-building and
leadership development. Venture to distant shores and invest in a value based, corporate leadership and executive team building experience.
Designate up to eight of your key executives to participate in two or three days of activity aboard professionally captained, blue water Island Packet sailing yachts in the beautiful Chesapeake Bay and historic Maryland shores.
Several destinations and seminar scenarios are available to host this
focused, fulfilling seminar. The team assembles in the morning of the first day at our school
headquartered in historic Rock Hall, MD for an important pre-trip safety
briefing. While there, they will lay out the teamwork and leadership
challenges expected to be encounter throughout the seminar. Sail to destination (Annapolis
or St. Michaels, MD) aboard a fully furnished, Island Packet yacht under
the direction of one of our US Coast Guard Licensed Captain and
American Sailing Association Certified Instructor. Not only does your team safely bond, they also build memories.
The team arrives at their
history laden destination after traversing 25 nautical miles and enters
into a huddle environment. Here they lay out specifics on the day’s
sailing experience and how teamwork played into it. They then define the
next day’s nautical challenge and the principles and interactions of
leadership into the exercise. Break for dinner and get ready
for a full day of the nautical leadership challenge. The next morning and majority of the day will be spent in onboard
instruction followed by the high seas challenge as the team embarks for
St. Michaels, MD 35 nautical miles away. The success metric is clear and
definable; work as a team to round several specific nautical points using
charts, navigation tools and leadership ending up at the Chesapeake Bay
Maritime Museum in beautiful and historic in St. Michaels. Here, the team is greeted by a highly skilled, motivational dinner speaker chosen from The St. Andrew Institute faculty. This engagement will last approximately three hours after which a successful mission is appropriately acknowledged and celebrated.
Each team member will give an overview of what they learned and
describe their experience. They will relate what they learned and how it
can be applied to their everyday business activities. The group then votes on who they believe would make the best group Captain to lead the
return voyage back to our original departure site, Rock Hall, MD. After dinner, it is time to unwind and go to bed. The team departs early on the final day led by your designated team Captain back to the finish line in Rock Hall. After a final debriefing, they are awarded diplomas certifying the successful completion of the course.
