Two Bearing Fix

Hints

Follow these guidelines to achieve the accuracy contained in the School solution:

  • Print the chart section and the compass rose and tape them together with the lines of latitude and longitude accurately aligned to allow drawing True lines on the chart.

  • Calculate the change in Variation from the date on the compass rose to the date of the question by using the annual change in Variation given on the compass rose. (Note that the Magnetic Variation of this compass rose was 15º00'W in 1985 and was increasing by 3' per year.)

  • Round off the resulting Magnetic Variation to the nearest whole degree using conventional rounding procedures. (Round up for a half degree or more, and round down if less than half a degree)

  • Using TVMDC procedures, convert the degrees psc of the two bearings to Magnetic and then to True by applying Deviation and Variation.

  • Plot the two bearing LOPs on the chart provided using degrees True and determine your position based on the intersection of these lines.

  • Read your Latitude-Longitude position to the nearest tenth of a degree.
